Today is Day 14 of no electricity. Utility workers restored electricity to the homes one block north on Thursday evening (Day 11). There were two loud booming sounds but the cheers from the neighbors signaled that they could now return to their normal daily routines.
On Friday evening (Day 12), the elecricity was restored one block east. There was another loud boom and an eerie blue light that illuminated the night. The workers left.
On Saturday (Day 13), only Miami-Dade County work crews were in the area removing piles of debris. The neighborhood looked much better but I would prefer a hot shower over the mounds of trash.
Supposedly, electricity will be restored today. I cannot get excited because I heard that five days ago. The workers are really doing a yeoman's job. They are tired and it clearly shows.
The most frustrating part about this situation is the poor communication from Florida Power & Light (FPL). The public service announcements on radio and television have reached the point of sheer nausea.
I don't need anyone to thank me for my patience, just give me some information about the status of restoration in my neighborhood. I really need to know why I see electricity restored all around me but not at my home. I am irritated and frustrated but still reasonable.
The out-of-town workers in the area are from Kent, OH and Shelby, NC. I offered some of them coffee but they just really wanted to sleep. I understand completely. Thanks, guys.
