“Mandela is dead.” Mistake or Metaphor?
Sunday, September 23, 2007
President George W. Bush's recent statement that Mandela is dead has expectedly caused a stir on the internet and served as fodder for comic routines. Some Bush defenders assert that the President was speaking metaphorically when referencing Mandela. See for yourself.
Well, I'd really like to believe the metaphor bit, I really would. Regardless the reason, I've often wondered what the atmosphere must be like in the Bush household after one of the President's highly publicized gaffes? Sometimes his mistakes are clearly just that; other times I think, damn, he graduated from Yale and Harvard?
