Cuban Blogger Abducted and Assaulted

Yoani_sanchez Today’s posts from most bloggers throughout the United States will likely be about the passage of the health care reform bill in the U.S. House of Representatives. I’d planned to write about that also and then I opened an e-mail about the kidnapping and assault of a blogger, Yoani Sánchez, in Cuba.

Sanchez, a brilliant and well-educated woman, is a thorn in the side of the Cuban government. She received tremendous media coverage recently as she and a friend were abducted and assaulted. Of course, Sanchez took to the blogosphere after the horrendous encounter.

Yoani Sánchez is also incredibly courageous. Here, in the United States, many of us probably take for granted access to the many methods of communicating with others and also the right to free speech we so quickly choose to use when we are angry about an issue or situation.

Check out her blog, Generacion Y, and her network of fellow bloggers in Cuba. Those folks go through a whole lot of trouble just to have access to the internet and share their opinion with others.

Vanessa: Unplugged! has moved to TypePad...There goes the neighborhood!

J0430674_2 Okay, I've moved Vanessa: Unplugged! to the TypePad blogging format. I really like the professional look of the templates and the flexibility in customizing them without using TypePad's more complicated "Advanced Templates". I'm trying to do "stress-free" blogging, you know. I'm sure I'll move to Advanced Templates soon, y'all know I have ADD when it comes to my blog design. LOL

There are some things that Blogger still does way better than TypePad; I'll blog about that later. If I had more readers and made different decisions on the front end, this move may not have been so attractive. For me, and my limited HTML, XML and CSS knowledge, TypePad definitely has its advantages. Anyhoo, there are a few things that I must do today, hopefully I can get back to this blog with my pros and cons on TypePad vs. Blogger.

I'm still tweaking an issue with changing the CNAME records of my domain name over at Network Solutions so that the "www" prefix is not necessary. I was using web-forwarding of "vanessabyers.net" to "vanessaunplugged.blogspot.com". Web-forwarding was not a good idea. Thus far, two phone calls have not resolved the problem. I'll let you know how that turns out too.

One last thing, I need help with code I can add over on Blogger to automatically redirect readers to this new address. If you can help, please leave info in comments. Thanks.

And now for something different...Intelligent Hip-Hop

"The Light" ~ Common featuring Erykah Badu

"...granted we've known each other for some time, it don't take a whole day to recognize sunshine."

This song and "Come Close", also by Common, are two of the most beautiful hip-hop love songs ever. If you been on this blog trip with me for a minute, you now I'm a Common fan [yeah, even more than Robin Thicke]. I've been chill about the Common photos and videos, until now.

Without a doubt, Common is the best rapper of all time --- yeah, better than Pac and Biggie. I'll share a few of Common's lyrics from time to time. You might be surprised at the message in his lyrics. Until then, Peace and Smooches...
