Golf Channel’s Kelly Tilghman apologizes for ‘lynch Tiger’ remark

Surely she regretted the words after they came from her mouth but it was too late; the damage was already done. Kelly Tilghman said that that today's young players should "lynch Tiger Woods in a back alley." Surely she wishes she could reverse time and not make such a statement but she can't.

Tilghman apologized for the statement. There were a few complaints but I guess blacks don't watch the Golf Channel in large numbers. Anyhoo, the word is out and some folks want Tilghman fired.

What say you?

No Electricity and Daunte’s Inferno

The electricity at my home has gone off and on as the rain and thunder and lightning continue. The only respite was during the shellacking that the Raiders gave the Dolphins and Daunte Culpepper exacted revenge.

I am not a Dolfan so I don't usually pay any attention to their games unless they're playing a team that I really like. I didn't like the way the Dolphin management got rid of Culpepper. No faith in Daunte's knees, huh? I'm sure they are rather embarrassed about leeting him go. My dislike for the Dolphins management actually goes back to the way they got rid of Coach Don Shula; it was not cool not matter how they tried to dress it up.

Professional sports is a business but it's still a business that functions because of people. I'd swear that the Dolphins have some kind of curse on them since unceremoniously dumped Shula.

Anyhoo, more important to me than the football game is the fact that the electricity flow is so inconsistent in my neighborhood I counted seven outages today. I'll call FPL on Monday to speak with a supervisor. The electricity poles in the area could be weak or the lights could go out for any number of reasons. Whatever the deal is, FPL won't be able to say it wasn't reported.

Oh, yeah, WAY TO GO DAUNTE!

Basketball legend Shaquille O’Neal and wife Shaunie are calling it quits

The shocking announcement of the impending divorce of basketball legend Shaquille O'Neal and Shaunie Nelson O'Neal dominated the local news in Miami. Shaq is generally regarded as a good guy so the way this divorce plays out will be very interesting. With four children together and one each before marriage, even with a pre-nuptial agreement, Shaq Daddy is going to pay big time.

What is odd about this break-up is that Shaq filed for the divorce and requests a "correct accounting of Shaunie's assets." You can read more at the Miami Herald article that broke the story but it appears that Ms. Shaunie was looking out for her interests and putting a little money away for herself on the side.

If that's the case, I really can't be mad at her. She's a beautiful and obviously intelligent woman. With the divorce rate as high as it is any woman would be wise to consider how to best take care of herself and her children. Far too often women end up on the short end of the stick financially after divorce. When you know your relationship is messy, you'd be wise to plan for life after divorce.

I do hope the O'Neals divorce does not get nasty. There are six innocent children who are a part of this relationship; they don't need their family issues splattered across the internet or other media.

Michael Vick: Too Much Money...Too Much Time

I don't know much about Michael Vick other than he has a brother that plays football, he was detained at Miami International Airport for carrying weed in a doctored water bottle and he's been indicted on dogfighting charges.

Oh yeah, he has a $62 million contract with the Atlanta Falcons and had contracts for product endorsements. I can't quote his statistics or even tell you which college he graduated from, if he actually graduated. I can tell you one thing, when you're a Black man and Rev. Al Sharpton and Russell Simmons are on your case, you got issues.

Now, I don't want to rush to judgment as in that Duke Rape Case but I don't see how Vick can get out of this one. He so represents what is wrong with young people, especially young Black males. Michael Vick is a victim but I don't feel the least bit sorry for his trifling a**. He makes millions of dollars yet he's trying to live some hard core neighborhood thug life that has been glamourized by the hypocritic Russell Simmons. Gimme me a break. Not only does Vick have Sharpton and Simmons against him but he's got PETA on his case too. That's a no win situation for Vick. No one can help him right now but Jesus.

Does this guy have a publicist or an advisor? Who is his agent? He needs help and he needs it bad. Michael Vick has been out of control for some time now. More than likely he's ruined his professional football career in the States and is in for a reality check that will not be pretty.

You know what? As I type this, there's a tune that I can't get out of my head...."Who let the dogs out? Woof! Woof! Woof! Woof! Woof!"

OKay, I'm not saying that was funny, it is the truth though. I wonder how Vick would feel locked in a pen with a couple of those dogs found on his property?

Shout out to Serena Williams!

Serenawilliams4_ap Since I’ve taken time off from the office to get rid of some things in my home and put others in storage, I’ve had an opportunity to keep up with the news a lot more than usual. While packing some of my Barbie dolls, I was amazed to see video of the resilience of Serena Williams playing through pain at Wimbledon.

One thing is certain; Serena and Venus bring so much excitement to women’s tennis. When they retire from the sport, they will be sorely missed. I recall their Dad speaking of them when they were young, playing on the horrible “courts” in Compton. Say what you like about their Dad, he was so right.

In addition to them looking so different from most of the other players because they are Black, the Sisters’ wardrobe --- both on and off the court --- seem to guarantee them media coverage.  I must say that most of their attire makes me cringe because they don’t dress for their body types. Venus and Serena are strong, beautiful, athletic women. They seem to wear what’s in style rather than allow their natural essence/beauty to be showcased.

Win or lose, when The Sisters speak with confidence (not arrogance), it makes me proud to be a Black woman, yeah, it really does. If I wrote anything different, I’d be lying, folks. I know that may not be politically correct but I’m trying to live an honest life.

Anyhoo, when Serena took that tumble from cramps or a pulled muscle, I’m not sure what it was, she proved herself to be a champion yet again. Serena is playing as if she really wants to win Wimbledon. With stiff competition yet to be faced, she still may be able to make that happen.

At this pace, I may have to induct Serena Williams into my personal Hall of Fame with Althea Gibson, Billie Jean King and Martina Navratilova.

All hail King James; I’m rooting for the Cavs

My interest in this year’s NBA Championship plummeted tremendously after the elimination of my Miami HEAT. I haven’t seen more than five minutes of any of the play-off games.

All of that will change as the Cavaliers take on the Spurs for the trophy starting Thursday evening. I will root for Lebron James and the Cavs. He is such a basketball talent; I’d like to see him wearing a NBA championship ring.

I’m not citing statistics or anything like that; I just want Lebron to win.

Billy Donovan: Flip-flop...waffles...but Gator Fans still love him

T1_donovan After a brief marriage, the wedding between University of Florida head basketball coach Billy Donovan and the Orlando Magic is off. Finished. Kaput. Donovan has basically told the Magic that they can keep their $27.5 million; he's staying in Gainesville with the basketball powerhouse he built. Hmmm...didn't he realize that before he decided to leave?

I don't think it exaggeration to characterize Donovan's status in Gainesville as god-like. What was actually going through his mind when he made the decision to go with Orlando? What he was thinking when he changed his mind?

Donovan seems to be such a nice guy. I'm sure he's prepared to take his lumps while he's chided about this flip-flop of a decision for the next few weeks. Our attention spans are not very long. He should gear up again for his lumps at the start of basketball season. His only salvation will be another Gator championship.

The NBA dress code

The NBA dress code caused a brief stir in the media. The players who opposed the change will fall in line, pay fines or quit. The latter two choices are highly unlikely.

The lesson? Everybody has to answer to someone. Even with their pimped out rides and blinged out cribs, they don’t run the show. Same owners. Different plantation.

I fail to see the big deal anyway. There’s nothing like a man in a nice suit. If they play this hand correctly, this new rule can lead to all kinds of clothing and shoe endorsements that they never would have been privy to.

More important, it’s also a prime business opportunity for them to produce their own quality clothing line. Cha-ching!
